History

Amtex was born in the 1950s in Lima, Peru, as a response to the growth of the textile industry. A few years later, it started exporting to the Caribbean, as well as Center and South America. In the 1970s, Amtex focused its production on CMC, building a production plant in Mexico. Then, in the 1980s, the company established its third production plant in Argentina.

Founding of the Mexican company AMERICANTEX Productos Químicos Industriales S.A.

1959

Founding of Amtex in Lima (Peru), and start of product exports to Colombia.

1962

Founding of the Chilean distribution company AMTEX S.A.

1963

Founding of Química Amtex Ltda. in Medellin (Colombia) on June 30th

1965

Start of production of CMC in Medellin (Colombia).

1970

Start of production of CMC in Ocoyoacac (Mexico).

1976

Start of operation of the business office in Buenos Aires (Argentina).

1982

Start of production of CMC in Argentina.

1986

Venture into the production of Functional Polymers in Medellin (Colombia).

1988

Start of production of PAC (polyanionic cellulose).

1991

Start of operation of the company’s first own business office in Lima (Peru).

1996

ISO 9001 certification.

1997

Start of operation of the company’s first business office in the Eastern World: Shenzhen, China.

1998

Start of operation of the subsidiary in Chicago (United States).

2000

Start of operation of business offices in Shanghai (China) and Jakarta (Indonesia).

2003

The integration of the commercial allies to the Amtex group is finalized: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, China, Ecuador, Indonesia, Peru, United States, Uruguay, Venezuela.

2013

FSSC22000 certification in Colombia and Mexico.
